– Michael Steele
OK, the wooing me with apathetic hipness “my bad” part aside, let’s be honest about why you guys are in this current predicament. I’m just gonna go ahead and say it: there are less racists in America. Truly, really, that’s it. ‘Limited...

A spokeswoman for Bobby Jindal now says the Louisiana governor didn’t intend to imply that an anecdote about battling bureaucrats “during Katrina” actually took place during the heat of the rescue effort or directly involved the governor, then a member of Congress.

For the record, however, the most-taxed countries on Earth (i.e., the countries where revenue is the highest percent of GDP) are in order:
Denmark
Sweden
Belgium
France
Norway
In terms of per capita GDP these are, respectively, the 4th, 9th, 14th, 15th, and 3rd richest countries on earth while the United States is 17th.
Here Comes the Change Everybody
I thought it was hilarious how after about a week or so into Obama’s presidency, every Republican in America started crowing the predictable cry of “this isn’t ‘change’ we can believe in,” or “this is what you call change?” They were feeling ‘left out’ of policy negotiations and Obama wasn’t being bipartisan enough. Lindsey Graham...

GALLAGHER: Is this a time when Republicans ought to consider some sort of alternative to redefining marriage and maybe in the road, down the road to civil unions. Do you favor civil unions?
STEELE: No, no no. What would we do that for? What are you, crazy? No. Why would we backslide on a core, founding value of this country? I mean this isn’t something that you just kind of like, “Oh well,...

I love how the Katrina story was used to illustrate how horrible The Government is. Government is bad when it’s inept, and the government was inept when it was run by Republicans. End of story.

The full David Brooks bitch slap
JIM LEHRER: Now that, of course, was Gov. Bobby Jindal, the governor of Louisiana, making the Republican response. David, how well do you think he did?
DAVID BROOKS: Uh, not so well. You know, I think Bobby Jindal is a very promising politician, and I oppose the stimulus because I thought it was poorly drafted. But to come up at this moment in history with a stale "government is the problem," "we can't trust the federal government" - it's just a disaster for the Republican Party. The country is in a panic right now. They may not like the way the Democrats have passed the stimulus bill, but that idea that we're just gonna - that government is going to have no role, the federal government has no role in this, that - In a moment when only the federal government is actually big enough to do stuff, to just ignore all that and just say "government is the problem, corruption, earmarks, wasteful spending," it's just a form of nihilism. It's just not where the country is, it's not where the future of the country is. There's an intra-Republican debate. Some people say the Republican Party lost its way because they got too moderate. Some people say they got too weird or too conservative. He thinks they got too moderate, and so he's making that case. I think it's insane, and I just think it's a disaster for the party. I just think it's unfortunate right now.

Here’s but one new bottom line: The Obama-Reid-Pelosi “stimulus” package involves some $1 trillion in new spending and debt. If Democrats and the mainstream media get their way and “pay for” this with a tax hike, the cost will be more than $3,000 for every single American. What’s to be done? Well, the good news is that while Obama, Reid, and Pelosi are working to make America poorer, less...
