When even Joe Scarborough gets it…
via MediaMatters

While obviously true, I don’t exactly think the comparison is fair. The Dixie Chicks were a ‘country’ group with a huge conservative following. Sure, people from all walks of life listened to them, but still, loads of conservative fans. Glenn Beck, of course, has no liberal fans. Not a single one. Period. If the bullshit he said had come out of someone like, Idunno, Bruce Springsteen’s mouth — someone who is ‘one of us’ — I think some boycotting or whatever would probably be in order. But if a bunch of liberals (it should be Americans, because what Beck said is truly despicable, but we’ll call it liberals for now) mounted up and took to the Fox News offices to protest Beck, or wrote letters or whatever, we’d be giving him exactly what he craves — attention and victimization.
The only people who have any power and truly any responsibility to take Beck and those like him to task for the sad, racist statements that have been flying around lately are conservatives. Conservatives in office, conservatives who aren’t racists (I would assume and hope that’s a majority of them?), conservatives who care about America as much as they say they do. The fact that this isn’t happening already is pathetic.
