We all saw this in the Times already, right?

elainecorden:

David Carr says some people who hate Juno are, ahem, rockists.

Idolator corrects him.

Ladies and gentlemen, The New York Times. Your international paper/blog of record.

Also, can we all agree to stop saying “McMansion?” Thanxxx!

Continuing with the neverending “howthefuckdidJunoevergetnominatedforanOscar” thing that is sure to continue until Juno inevitably wins the Oscar and I move to Bollywood, David Carr’s argument might be at all valid if Juno wasn’t suuuuuch a piece of shit! It’s a bad movie! There’s no backlash, it just sucks! If this were 1998 and Rushmore had just been nominated for an Academy Award, there would be no indie purist backlash or whateverthefuck. People would be jubilant with celebration, because the Academy had FINALLY acknowledged somethign that matters. But that’s the Academy; they don’t acknowledge shit when it matters, they do it years after. Remember when Denzel won an Oscar? He didn’t win it for any of his actually amazing, deserving performances (Malcolm X, Philadelphia, The Hurricane). He won for Training Day, which was, to be fair, a fucking joke of a movie. Or remember when Scorsese won the Oscar last year for The Departed, and not dver before in his life?!?! Backlash doesn’t even EXIST in the movies. You know why? Because already have to be a complete sellout in order to get a major studio to release your movies in the first place!
