John McCain: Panderer
There is a popular sentiment being echoed right now that of all the candidates in the race, John McCain is the most honest. It was in some NYT op-ed or something a while ago (found it). In the article, David Brooks waxes for a while about how “…there’s really only one great man running for president this year, and that’s McCain.” So “great” is the key-word, not necessarily “honest”. And generally, I agree: McCain seems like a great man. He’s a veteran, has kids in the military that he doesn’t exploit (most politicians would be wearing that shit on a t-shirt), is funny when he’s on The Daily Show, etc. But then you read this extensive list of positions he has changed and groups he has pandered to in his quest for the presidency, and you realize that — just like Hillary — he’s willing to shift almost everything he believes in or holds firm in order to become President.
