Every now and then I indulge my inner Annie Hall and check what the National Review is talking about. It’s always worthless, and this article is no different. But still, it’s not crazy like most conservative internet things usually are. It’s a level-headed, completely misguided defense of Jim Bunning and his recent stunt in the Senate.
While it is full of problems, the main problem with this article, Jim Bunning and nearly ever single conservative I’ve heard speak since Obama’s election, is there is no suggestion whatsoever of which spending they would like to cut. Bunning said he had no problem extending unemployment benefits, but simply wanted them paid for. But he didn’t suggest how to pay for them. Did he? Did I miss something?
Of course, this critique of conservatives is tired. They all want to cut spending, and have no idea what to cut. But I’m constantly amazed that they can rest on this platitude over and over again, never take responsibility for the reckless spending they took part in to get us in this hole, and never suggest a way to get us out of it.
