We tolerate such right-wing extremism in this country, it’s laughable.
Confront your average American with the looniest, wingnut fanaticist and they’ll chalk it up to eccentricity—as long as it’s on the right. A white man flies a plane into building for a political objective and it’s not terrorism, it’s the act of a deranged lunatic.
Useful thought experiment: Switch the channel of that television to Olbermann and darken the skin color on the man seated. Tell me the photo doesn’t run in TIME Magazine. Tell me all the blather about “2nd Amendment rights” isn’t ignored in the court of public opinion. Tell me the man in the picture is not seen for the menacing threat he so obviously is.
But what if that black guy was watching Nights in Rodanthe? Then what?
